Travel insurance is not obligatory on your holidays but there are several things you may want to take into consideration to avoid monetary losses and headaches if you are forced to cancel your holiday or any mishaps occur while you are away.

  • You should be able to recover a large percentage of the costs of flights, car rental and hotel/villa rentals when you take out travel insurance.
  • Health problems could occur while you are away and although many European countries have an agreement with the UK there are many countries that do not. Heath care is expensive in the USA so always consider travel insurance if you are taking a holiday there.
  • If you are stranded at an airport or cannot fly back on your desired date due to unforeseen circumstances you may be able to recover these costs.
  • Shop around to find the best travel insurance to suit your needs, many companies offer big discounts (even free ) travel insurance for children.
  • If you are a frequent traveler consider taking out a yearly travel policy as this will greatly reduce costs.
  • Traveling to some countries will incur much higher travel insurance costs than others due to disease, instability of the country etc. Many companies will not issue insurance for some countries.
  • If you are unfortunate to have lost or has stolen your passport, travel insurance can help to cover the cost of having a new or temporary one issued
  • Travel policies normally have a 24 hr help line, be sure to have this number on you at all times.
